Your web presence is often the first point of contact with your target market. Let’s face it – we all check each other out online to see if it looks like a good fit for us or our business!

Long gone are the days when a website was an optional organisational resource. We live in a time when we are all expected to not only have a website but portray the quality and reliability of our offerings to our target markets in a way that is unique and representing our unique brand identity.

Not only that but for our website to truly be a good communication tool for us, we require these to be easily updatable (a good CMS or Content Management System), visually engaging (great design), and responsive to the myriad of devices we might view the site on. Monitor sizes are increasing, yet devices are also hand-held. Today’s sites need to cater to their varied audiences.

There’s also the technical to consider. Ranking well in organic Google search results means a responsive site (a site that modifies its look to cater to the size of the viewer’s screen) is a must-have. There’s also the security of the information and the privacy of your users to consider. Not to mention registering domain names that reflect your brand in the best possible way.

The aforementioned points simply mean your website is a communication investment to be made wisely – not something that should be thrown together ad hoc, but rather requires a clear strategy and tasteful implementation.

The Creed 4D Website Process. Define. Design. Develop. Deploy.

Over the years, Creed has developed a proven process to help clients manage the potentially complex process of website development. We recognise that each business or organisation has its own story, its own identity, its own point of difference and its own very real needs and limitations. Our job is to share that through your website. Usually, Creed design and develop sites from start to finish – however, we also work with other developers providing the design and strategy side of the project, and allowing them to build the sites. The process below details how we would work with a client from start to finish.

The process of building a website is akin to the process of planning, designing, and building a house. It won’t happen overnight, and there will be a fair bit to think about.

Creed websites are easy to use and operate. The following 7 steps underpin our 4D approach.

Today, more people search on mobile phones than computers.

People are five times more likely to leave a site if it isn’t mobile-friendly. ”
— Google – Test My Site
  1. Discovery. The first step is for Creed to listen and discover your goals and desire for the site. This includes what sort of content, look, or functionality would be required. You’ll work through our Website Questionnaire to facilitate this process.

  2. Research. Creed then identifies competition to your business or organisation to learn their positioning and find your key marketable points of difference – what sets you apart. Creed uncovers concepts or imagery that will help tell your brand story.

  3. Sitemap. Like an architect’s drawings, Creed’s sitemap will show the pages within your site from a planning perspective. The more pages, the more content is required, so it’s about telling your story efficiently, as well as leaving room for you to grow (you may want self-managed blogs, event calendars, or areas you can maintain yourself). See some Example Sitemaps.

  4. Content Collation. Once the Sitemap is approved, we’ll know what copy (text) is needed and for what pages or areas. Creed will guide you as to what information or text you will need to supply. There may also be images you need to gather for the website.

  5. Develop. Now the design phase begins. Creed designs sites in-browser, meaning once your draft site is ready, you will be able to open it view it in an internet browser – clicking on buttons and navigating through it. This means what-you-see is what-you-get. There are no design elements lost in development. We may also suggest images for purchase for pages.

  6. Revisions. At this point, you may want to tweak some copy or change images. You’ll have the ability to provide your feedback on where the site is at. There may be some placeholder text that still requires some extra copy or images from you.

  7. Deployment. Once the site is ready, Creed will deploy it for public viewing. Up till now, it’s been a private password-protected work-in-progress. We’ll manage the go-live process, as well as taking care of details like submitting the site to Google, making sure any URL redirects are in place (if you’re transitioning from an existing site to a new one), and that Social Media and contact forms are linked in and working.

Training is included in all our packages to help you and your team understand how to operate the site and add or adjust content. This can be live in person, or via a live screen-cast training session. You’ll have your questions answered and we tailor this session to your needs and skillset. Creed are Squarespace Developers, utilising its CMS, so you'll be given your own login to be able to add your own pages and content if you wish once the site has gone live.
